Stakeholders Speak About Canada’s Ban on Animal Testing in Cosmetics

Canada has become the 44th country to ban testing cosmetics on animals. The recently passed legislation (Bill C-47) comes into effect on December 22, 2023. The move was celebrated by stakeholders in a press conference hosted by Lush Cosmetics in Toronto on June 27, 2023.

Accordingto Cruelty Free International, all 27 in the European Union as well as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Australia, New Zealand and India have passed restrictions on animal testing.. A similar law is also currently in the Brazilian Senate.

Hilary Lloyd, vice president of marketing and corporate responsibility, The Body Shop North America, joined the legislators and NGO advocates, including Monica Egerton, head of public affairs North America, Cruelty Free International, in Toronto.
